Workshop on Oral Histories of Himalayan Transformation 11th March 2026
A one-day workshop on “Oral Histories of Himalayan Transformation” was held on 11 March 2026 for students of BA and MA. Dr. Aniket Alam, Associate Professor IIIT Hyderabad was the facilitator of the workshop which was organised by the Department of History.
The workshop began with a formal inauguration followed by a session on Himalayan Lifeworlds, where Dr. Alam explained the importance of oral history in understanding social and cultural changes in the Himalayan region. Activity titled ; Hidden Histories around Us, encouraged students to think about stories and experiences within their communities. Dr. Aniket Alam also emphasised the archiving and proper preservation of recorded narratives of oral histories.
A session on recording interviews was conducted by Ms. Rajani, where she explained the practical aspects of recording oral histories, including proper use of recording devices, attentive listening, and maintaining clear audio quality. She also discussed the importance of documenting interviews through metadata and field notes.
