The Department of History is one of the oldest departments of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyala, even before the college was taken over by the Himachal Government in the year 1977. History is the subject which help all of us understand our society and the changes therein. Studying History enables us to build knowledge and understanding of historical events and trends which enables us to develop a much greater appreciation for current events today.

The college offers History as one of the main subject and attracts a large number of students always. The syllabus offered is the one designed and approved by the Himachal Pradesh University. It has a wide range of courses to equip the students with the required skill and knowledge. The Department is offering the BA (Pass Course) under the ‘Choice Based credit System’ (CBCS). The programme consists of Discipline Specific Core (DSC), Skill Enhancement Generic Courses (SEC) and Generic Elective Courses (GE).

Department also provides opportunities to its student to learn practically by organizing Historical tours and visits. It also organizes Seminars, Workshops and Conferences which enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge to contemporary world.

Activities

The faculties of the Department have strong work ethics and engage well with the students for various activities. The faculty is also sharing its expertise with higher institutions like IGNOU and HIPA. It is also invited regularly for Talks/Lectures/shows/Interaction on Media on various Historical Issues. One member of our Faculty is also an anchor with Doordarshan and hosts various Shows.
