“Shangri-La – Healthy Minds, Happy Hearts, Clean Environment 17 September 2026
Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya in collaboration with Auckland House School for Boys, organized an awareness programme titled ;Shangri-La – Healthy Minds, Happy Hearts, Clean Environment ; on 17 September 2026. The programme was organized by the Eco Club, Red Ribbon Club and Department of Zoology, RKMV.
The programme focused on environmental sustainability, responsible waste management and awareness against drug addiction. A major objective was to sensitize students towards the harmful impact of single-use plastic and encourage them to refuse its use and adopt sustainable practices.
The programme featured a series of engaging activities, including presentations, poetry recitations and Nukkad Nataks, through which students conveyed meaningful messages on environmental protection, healthy living and the importance of a drug-free society.
Addressing the students, Dr. Anurita Saxena, Principal, RKMV, emphasized the importance of extension and outreach through collaboration with neighbouring educational institutions. She highlighted that learning is a continuous and reciprocal process—the young can learn from the experienced, while the experienced can also learn from the young. She encouraged the students to embark on a journey of doing things together, learning together and taking responsibility together.
Dr. Saxena further urged students to reflect on what each individual can do to protect the environment and stressed that meaningful change begins with personal responsibility. She encouraged the students to return with a simple but significant promise: to refuse the use of single-use plastic and contribute individually towards keeping the environment clean and sustainable.
She also appreciated the efforts of Auckland House School for Girls and Boys for contributing 100 kg and 30 kg of single-use plastic, respectively, while RKMV's collective efforts led to the collection of nearly 1,000 kg, earning the college a Himachal Pradesh Environmental Leadership Award.
The programme was attended by 200 students and concluded with a sense of collective responsibility and commitment towards a cleaner, healthier and drug-free society. The collaborative and fruitful activities provided students with meaningful learning experiences and inspired them to translate awareness into responsible action.
