Drug Awareness Outreach Programme 29th & 30th April 2026

The Anti-Drug Committee of RKMV Shimla successfully organized a Drug Sensitization Lecture Series under its Student Outreach Programme on 29th and 30th April 2026. The programme aimed to spread awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, promote emotional well-being, and encourage a healthy and substance-free lifestyle. The initiative was conducted under the able guidance of the Principal, Dr Anurita Saxena, whose constant support and vision played a crucial role in its successful implementation. The lecture series was delivered by Mr. Esh Sharma, a life coach, mindfulness practitioner, and sobriety mentor. His sessions were highly encouraging, informative, and interactive, focusing on awareness, mindfulness, and empowerment. During the lecture he stated, “The brain is the employee of your soul, emphasising that the mind works according to the thoughts and affirmations we feed into it. He discussed how habitual questioning, affirmations, and Neuro-Linguistic techniques can help develop self-control and confidence. The programme was conducted across multiple institutions including RKMV Shimla, GSSS Lakkar Bazar, GSSS Sanjauli, COE Sanjauli, and GSSS Lal Pani, covering a wide range of students through a well-planned schedule. The Drug Sensitization and Awareness Outreach Programme commenced from RKMV Shimla. The session1 was conducted at RKMV Shimla, Session 2 at GSSS Lakkar Bazar and Session 3 at GSSS Sanjauli on Day 1( 29th April 2026) of the Outreach Programme. The Outreach Sessions continued with the same spirit and commitment on Day 2 ( 30th April 2026). The second day of the programme began with Session1 at GSSC Sanjauli, Session 2 was conducted at COE Sanjauli and Session3 at GSSS Lal Pani. The resource person, Mr. Esh Sharma was accompanied by Dr. Jitender Thakur and Dr. Devender Sharma who actively coordinated and ensured the smooth conduct of all sessions. It was a meaningful and impactful outreach initiative reinforcing the collective responsibility of educational institutions in sensitizing and protecting young minds.

The Third Veteran Alumni Meet 25th April, 2025

The third Veteran Alumni Meet of the institution was held on 25th April 2025, continuing the meaningful tradition of reconnecting with former students. The alumni warmly interacted with faculty members, toured the college campus, and spent memorable moments together in the gazebo, revisiting cherished memories and strengthening their bond with their alma mater. The veterans expressed deep appreciation for the remarkable infrastructural development, academic excellence, and the institution's growing stature. They acknowledged that the college has achieved significant milestones under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena. Sharing their heartfelt reflections, alumni praised the impeccable arrangements and warm hospitality. Ms. Veena appreciated the well-organised visit, while Mr. Paramjit Singh, representing the 1977 batch, expressed gratitude for the memorable gathering and highlighted the enthusiastic participation of alumni from various places, including Mr. Mukesh Bhatia from the USA. The event was filled with emotions, pride, and nostalgia, reinforcing the strong and lifelong connection between the institution and its alumni, while further strengthening the alumni network

RKMV signs MoU with INTERNEXUS Lucknow 24 April 2026

Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with INTERNEXUS, Lucknow, to promote academic excellence and skill development among students. The collaboration will focus on : Academic Enrichment: Expert-led seminars and webinars. Skill Development: Debate and communication workshops to enhance personality and leadership skills. RKMV will provide academic support and infrastructure, while INTERNEXUS will conduct training programmes to strengthen students' skills. The MoU emphasises resource sharing, confidentiality, and mutual cooperation with flexibility for renewal or termination. Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena expressed that the partnership will enrich students' academic and professional growth, while INTERNEXUS highlighted its commitment to empowering youth through leadership initiatives. This collaboration marks a step forward in nurturing innovation, ethical research, and holistic student development.

Earth Day Observance 22nd April 2026

On 22 April 2026, RKMV Shimla observed Earth Day with a profound sense of responsibility under the global theme Our Power, Our Planet.&quot; The observance aimed to promote environmental consciousness and encourage students to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. The programme began with an inspiring and impactful address by the Principal, Dr. Anurita Saxena. In her address, the Principal poignantly connected the Earth's health to the human heart, emphasizing that environmental protection is not merely a choice but a moral imperative. She also urged the audience to harness their strength to adopt sustainable lifestyles and make responsible choices that support an eco-friendly way of living.</p> Following the Principal's Address, a series of activities was organized. One of the key highlights was an exhibition of articles prepared from waste materials, where students displayed innovative and useful products made out of discarded items, promoting the message of recycling and responsible waste management. An oath to protect the environment by adopting sustainable practices was also taken by the faculty members and students. The programme concluded with a cleanliness drive conducted by the students of Sainik Hostel, RKMV. By clearing debris and waste from the local water resource (Bawadi), the team demonstrated their strong sense of responsibility and commitment towards environmental conservation. The programme was attended by all the faculty members and postgraduate students from the Departments of Geography, Commerce, Political Science, History, and English. The Earth Day observance reinforced the importance of sustainable living and strengthened the commitment of students and faculty members towards environmental conservation.

The Department of History(RKMV) organised an academically enriching guest talk for PG students on the topic, The Indian Himalayas and Tibet on 22nd April 2026. The session was conducted by Mr. Tenzin Tsundue, a writer, a researcher, and an activist for the Tibetan cause. The talk was delivered with the help of a well-prepared slide presentation, which made the session highly engaging and visually impactful. Through the slide presentation, Mr. Tenzin effectively explained the cultural richness, political, and strategic significance of the Indian Himalayan regions and Tibet. The slide presentation featuring 176 pictures drawn from his firsthand travel experiences proved to be a stimulating virtual journey for the audience across the Indian Himalayas from Karakoram to the Burma border, passing through Kashmir, Ladakh, Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Garhwal, Kumaon, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Tawang, Itanagar, Menchukha, Tuting, and Miao. Drawing extensively from his personal experiences and scholarly research, Mr. Tenzin elaborated on the cultural traditions, religious practices, and unique lifestyle of the people inhabiting the Himalayan belt and Tibet. He also addressed the historical ties between India and Tibet, emphasizing the shared heritage and longstanding cultural exchanges between the two regions. His reflections as an activist shed light on the contemporary realities faced by Tibetans and the importance of preserving Tibetan identity, language, and cultural heritage The Principal, Dr. Anurita Saxena, praised the resource person for his engaging presentation and also highlighted the value of such guest talks and innovative learning approaches for the students The session proved to be highly beneficial for students. It motivated students to adopt a broader perspective on history, encouraging them to pursue field-based research and develop critical thinking beyond the classroom.

MoU Signed for Academic Excellence 22 April, 2026

On 22 April 2026, Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, through its Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Orbit Biotech, Mohali, a reputed research organization in the field of Biosciences. It was signed by Dr. Anurita Saxena, Principal, RKMV, and Ms. Upasna, HR, Orbit Biotech, Mohali, in the presence of Ms. Kartik S M Chauhan, Dean, Sciences; Dr. Nidhi Dhatwalia, Coordinator, Biotechnology and Microbiology; and the faculty members of the department. The MoU aims to promote academic excellence, research innovation, and skill development among students. This collaboration will provide a platform for bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical industry requirements.

An industrial visit was organised for 31 first-year B.Voc students of Hospitality and Tourism Management on 13th April 2026 to dusitD2 Fagu, an international hotel chain and five-star luxury property. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience of the four major hotel departments: Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Service, and Food Production. In the Front Office Department, students learned about check-in, check-out procedures, and maintenance of the logbook. In Housekeeping Operations, they observed inventory management, laundry equipment, and cleaning tools. In Food &amp; Beverage Services, they visited the bar and restaurant and received guidance on service techniques and guest handling. In Food Production, students explored kitchen operations and food preparation processes. Students also toured other premium facilities of the hotel, including the spa and wellness centre, gym, kids club, heated indoor swimming pool, and Jacuzzi. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into customer care and learned important operational aspects of all four departments. The industrial visit was a successful learning experience for the students. It helped students to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and its practical utility. Overall, the industrial visit proved to be highly effective and beneficial for the students' learning, growth, and professional development.

Educational Tour to Kangra & Dharamshala (10th–13th April 2026) Depts of English, History, Political Science, Geography & Commerce

A group of 39 postgraduate students from the departments of English, History, Political Science, Geography, and Commerce undertook an educational tour to Kangra and nearby areas. During their visit to McLeodganj, students got a chance to explore Tibetan culture and spirituality through a visit to the Norbulingka Institute and local monasteries. They also visited the scenic Kunal Pathari Tea Gardens, along with the picturesque HPCA Stadium and Bhagsunag Waterfall, gaining insights into eco-tourism and environmental conservation. The Kangra segment of the tour provided deep historical exposure. Students visited the Kangra Fort- one of the oldest forts in India-where they observed its strategic location and architectural features. At the Kangra War Memorial, they reflected on the region's contribution to national service. Visits to Jwala Ji Temple and Baglamukhi Mata Temple helped them understand the religious importance of Shakti worship traditions in North India. A highlight of the tour was the visit to the Masroor Rock Cut Temples, an 8th-century monolithic structure, where students observed early examples of rock-cut architecture in North India. They also explored local havelis and markets, gaining first-hand knowledge of Kangra's traditional architecture and local economy. The tour successfully linked classroom learning with field experience, especially in the context of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), by exposing students to indigenous architecture, cultural practices, and sustainable hill lifestyles. Overall, the tour was informative, well-coordinated, and highly enriching;leaving students with valuable academic insights and memorable experiences.

Educational Trip organised by B.Voc Retail Management 1st to 3rd April 2026

In line with the vision of promoting the Indian Knowledge System and experiential learning, an educational trip (from 1st to 3rd April 2026) to the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh was organised by RKMV for the Students of B. Voc Retail Management. The main purpose of the trip was to provide students an exposure to the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Himachal Pradesh. The trip provided an excellent opportunity to the students to explore and understand the rich spiritual heritage, architectural brilliance and traditional knowledge embedded in the ancient temples of the state A group of 16 girl students, accompanied by faculty members Mr. Anupam Sood and Samriti Sharma, visited famous temples, including Markandey Mahadev Temple, Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple, Jwala Ji Temple, Chintpurni Temple, Baglamukhi Temple, Rock Temple, Brajeshwari Temple, and Chamunda Devi Temple. It was an enriching experience for the students, combining devotion, learning, and enjoyment. The trip not only enhanced the cultural awareness but also nurtured a sense of belongingness and pride in the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
